In a recent restless early morning spent browsing the Web, I did a bit of reminiscing about my EARLY DAYS AS A WEB DESIGNER. I started my WEB DESIGN STUDIO more than ten years ago, after spending a number of years in advertising as a graphic designer for print media. My first noteworthy website was designed after a vacation spent in Paris, France. Enthralled by the beauty and romance of this timeless city, I created an online travelogue "PARIS, MY LOVE" dedicated to the charms of this great city. As other Paris lovers found the website, they sent me additional Paris travel tips and thoughts to add to the site.
With a 486 computer, 14-inch, 256 color monitor, and a 56k modem I started a small web design studio more than ten years ago.
I used a combination of heavily hacked basic html and Adobe's first web design software named Adobe PageMill. It was the first WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) web design software, allowing visual designers to use tables, frames, and graphics to visually create out a web page.
Itching to go beyond the strict design limitations of basic html, I used html tables to create a 3 column design that fit into a typical 640x480, 256 color vga screen. It was a pretty advanced web design for the day!
About a month after being on the web, "Paris, My Love" was selected by netscape.com (the most popular web browser at that time) as "Website of the Week." Suddenly, my tiny website was getting more than 60,000 visitors a day. I was also receiving email requests and telephone calls seeking my web design services. Happily, I began to work on a steady stream of web design projects. That was the beginning of Newark1.com Web Design Portfolio & Guide!
With a 486 computer, 14-inch, 256 color monitor, and a 56k modem I started a small web design studio. I am delighted to earn an income from something that gave me much enjoyment as a hobby. You can view a copy of my first noteworthy web design, "PARIS, MY LOVE" by following this link.
