Knowing basic color theory will enhance your ability to use color successfully in WEB DESIGN. I found an excellent online resource that provides expert information not only regarding color use on the web but in a variety of commercial settings. It is the best online color theory resource I have seen to date. Also, it is written in a way that makes learning about color a joy. You must visit COLORMATTERS.COM. Not only it is a fine resource but it also provides links to other sources of expert information on the use of color in graphic and web design.

Perhaps it is good to mention a point or two about color accuracy in web browsers. By default. popular web browsers such as Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox do not read Color Profiles that determine the exact colors in .jpg and .gif graphics. Therefore, there will always be some variation when comparing the colors of an image edited in Photoshop using standard sRGB or Adobe RGB color profiles and how the final image looks when seen in a web browser window. In fact, if you look at the image on ten different computer monitors, you will most likely see slight variations on each.
That issue has been partially resolved by add-ons and plug-ins that add Color Management to web browsers. That will correct the problem for your computer but not for the millions of potential viewers on the Internet. So for now, there is no universal solution. When designing a website it is good to keep in mind that you cannot provide perfect color for each viewer. A shade of blue on one screen may appear to be purple or even black on another. Hopefully, the issue will be resolved in upcoming web browser software.
