The Contest

Sponsored by the Greater Newark Conservancy, the City Gardens Contest rewards Newark residents for their gardening achievements and gives them a chance to compete for prizes.

Judges and Judging

Volunteer judges are selected for their competence and accomplishments in fruit and vegetable gardening. Gardens will be judged for maintenance and horticultural practices, the variety, color, texture and suitability of the plantings, their design and total visual effect - with extra points awarded for imagination and ingenuity. Judges make written assessments of each entry, and these notes will, upon request, be available to contestants.

Awards and Recognition

All gardeners and judges will be invited to a gala Awards Ceremony in the fall. The winning gardens will be awarded prizes and displayed in a slide show at the ceremony.
