Flower Barrel Program

Flowers add warmth, color and life to our urban environment. a block lined with blooming flower barrels and boxes makes a neighborhood blossom with beauty and pride.

The Greater Newark Conservancy's Flower Barrel Program offers wooden or flower barrels, window boxes, planting materials and horticultural assistance for organized community and neighborhood groups.

Who Is Eligible to Participate?

Your block is eligible to be a Flower Barrel Block if :

It is located in Newark,

At least 75% of the houses are occupied, and

60% or more of the households on both sides of the block want to participate.

How To Apply

Neighborhood organizers must determine the number of households on the block that will join the Block Greening Club. The Conservancy staff can make a presentation of the program to your group if necessary. Those who wish to participate must sign the petition. The group returns the petition with the one-time membership fee an? a Greater Newark Conservancy Block Greening Club.

The Conservancy accepts new groups on a first come, first served basis, with priority given to those that are prepared to engage in the program. Contact us for more information.

The Greater Newark Conservancy Provides:

  • Five Head Gardeners to organize residents, collect fees and collaborate with the Newark Conservancy.
  • Block Greening Club to sign petitions, plant and maintain barrels and to participate in Conservancy workshops.
  • Outreach to other Newark residents who may want to join the Greater Newark Conservancy.

Lifetime Greening Club fee:

  • $40 (for the whole group)
  • One flower barrel; $21
  • One window box; $12
