Learn Order from a Master
Web designers can enhance their craft by studying the work of great graphic designers. One designer who had a tremendous influence on graphic design in Europe during the 1950's was Josef Müller-Brockmann. He was a Swiss graphic designer whose work had power and a wonderful sense of clarity.
Because Switzerland is a country where four different regional languages are spoken: German, French, Italian and Romanch, graphic design must accurately communicate to a diverse audience. Josef's work says much with little, a wonderful quality that can make web design more effective as well. Studying the work of Josef Müller-Brockmann can help us as web designers to be effective communicators without fluff and distraction. Here is a link to a brief SAMPLE of his poster design. Also by doing a search at Amazon.com, you can find a number of books that showcase the outstanding body of clear, powerful work from this designer. Be sure to see if any museums in your area plan to exhibit his work. The principles he espoused can help us to be better web designers! |
