Website Makeover!

Here is web design makeover we did for IBIS COMPUTER CONSULTING, a small computer consulting business in Parker, Co.

The three objectives the redesign of this website are to accomplish are:

Objective #1: The design had to visually emphasize computer consulting, training and technology solutions. We felt the graphic of the Ibis in the old design was too prominent, detracting from the purpose of the website. Also, the old design was "clunky," and did not convey the sense of competence the company wanted to express.

The old website design.

Solution #1: We gave the web design a visual look that better supported the purpose of the business. We decided to use a "ghosted" image of an Ibis in flight. It was also integrated better into the overall design. The three key services provided by the business are now highlighted in white text in the blue bar that splits the page. Finally, the new design has a no nonsense look that conveys a spirit of quiet competence.

Objective #2: The redesigned cover page needed to be content rich, loaded with keywords that would be used by search engines to index the site. This would improve the search engine rankings. The old design did not have enough text for the search engines to register it in the proper categories. Too many of the descriptive terms were in the graphics, which search engines cannot read.

Solution #2: We added four times as much text to the first page, splitting it up into 4 blocks of copy to better integrate it into the design. The text briefly describes key services provided by the business. We added descriptive text links that greatly enhance the ability of the website to be properly indexed and ranked by search engines.

Objective #3: The design had to be easily customizable by the client. They already had a good knowledge of html and needed a website they could easily add pages to while staying true to the overall design of the site.

Solution # 3: All the pages use basic html tables to lay out text columns, easily updated by anyone with a knowledge of html. The navigation at the top of each page easily accommodates many more pages. It is updated by adding links to a small text file that automatically updates the links on all pages in the site.

The end result is an effective website design that is search engine ready, easy to upgrade, and provides a usable, clear and professional image for a small business. Isn't that what good web design is all about?
